Autism Speaks Logo - Design and History
I was in the Toys 'R Us the other day when I was asked for a donation to support research on Autism. The logo of Autism Speak certainly caught me eye. Autism is classified by the World Health Organization and American Psychological Association as a developmental disability that results from a disorder of the human central nervous system . It is diagnosed using specific criteria for impairments to social interaction, communication, interests, imagination and activities. |
The Autism Speaks logo is a jigsaw piece puzzle that also looks like a toddler sitting up. The jigsaw piece represents the goal of the organization to solve the puzzle of autism. I was unable to find more information on the logo but I liked the design a lot. I also liked the line "Its time to listen" that goes with "Autism Speaks". Overall I think its a very creative logo.

Heineken Logo - Design and History
Heineken Brewery (Heineken Brouwerijen) is a Dutch brewing company, founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken in Amsterdam. Heineken owns and manages one of the world's leading portfolios of beer brands. The principal international brands are Heineken and Amstel. Heineken is positioned as a premium brand, except for their home market in the Netherlands. Heineken is the leading beer brand in Europe and Amstel is the third largest. In Europe, Amstel is positioned in the mid-priced mainstream segment, the largest segment of the market, and is available in more than 90 countries around the world. |
Heineken claims that it really has two brand logos - the Authenticity logo and the Star-Heineken logo.
- Authenticity logo has been specially developed to communicate and reinforce the brand€™s brewing quality, heritage and authenticity. Its primary application area is direct beer related items.
- Star-Heineken logo has been specially developed to communicate and reinforce the modernity and vitality of the brand. It may be applied in communication, sponsorships, merchandise and packaging. Star-Heineken on a Heineken green background is preferred above on a white background, it reflects the character of the brand better.
The green bottle with racetrack label is the origin of the brand€™s visual identity.
According to Wikipedia, the three 'e's on the Heineken logo are tilted backwards slightly, making them look like they are smiling. The smiling Es were brought in as the original label was thought too formal for the beer.

Holi - A Hindu Festival of Colours
Its March 4th, 2007 and I would like too Happy Holi to everyone. Have you wondered what the significane of Holi is. Holi or Phagwah (Bhojpuri) is an annual and popular Hindu spring festival. It takes place over two days in the later part of February or early March. As per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Phalgun Purnima (or Pooranmashi, Full Moon). It is also called the Festival of Colours. In West Bengal, it is known as Dolyatra (Doljatra) or Boshonto Utshob ("spring festival"). |
Friends celebrating Holi in Pune, IndiaOn the first day, a bonfire is lit at night to signify burning Holika. On the second day, known as Dhulandi, people go around until afternoon throwing colored powder and water at each other. A special drink called thandai is prepared, sometimes containing bhang (Cannabis sativa). People invite each other to their houses for feasts and celebrations later in the evening. Rangapanchami occurs a few days later on a Panchami (fifth day of the full moon), marking the end of festivities involving colours.
Celebration of HoliThis festival occurs at the onset of spring. This period, during which the weather changes, is prone to cause viral fever and cold. Thus, the playful throwing of the coloured powders has a medicinal significance as the coloured powders are made of Neem, Kumkum, Haldi, Bilva, and other medicinal herbs prescribed by Ayurvedic doctors.
In 2007, Holi will be celebrated on March 3rd, the burning of Holika will be on March 4th, and then Dhuleti on March 5.
Although a Hindu celebration, other religions in India celebrate it as well. In fact, some of the best Holi celebrations are said to happen in Punjab, where Hindus and Sikhs celebrate together. This celebration in Punjab typically involves Dholi's and other musical instruments as kids and adults celebrate.
