The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, will be the 14th European Championship for national football teams sanctioned by UEFA. The final tournament will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012. It is the first time that either nation has hosted the tournament.

The logo for the tournament shown alongside is the stalk of a flower with three branches

  • A ball is depicted around the central flower with bright yellow sunflower colors
  • The left flower is bright red and white to represent the colors of Poland€™s flag and
  • The right flower being yellow and blue to represent the colors of Ukraine€™s flag
  • Within each flower is the silhoutte of a person with their arms wide open
  • The colors of the log are very bright and apparently inspired by nature such as the green stems and the yellow sun.

The logo takes its lead from €˜wycinanka€™, a traditonal art of paper cutting practised in rural areas of Poland and Ukraine.

The event slogan is "Creating History Together".

I personally like the logo a lot. The bright colors certainly drawn your attention and will look nice on all the souvenirs that will be sold. The floral pattern is also nice and it incorporates the colors of the host nation's flag. Lets hope that Poland and Ukraine are able to put up a great show.

BCS 2012 Logo Design

The BCS National Championship Game, or BCS National Championship, is the final bowl game of the annual Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and is intended by the organizers of the BCS to determine the U.S. national champion of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The participants are the two highest-ranked teams in the BCS standings at the end of the regular college football season, currently determined by averaging the results of the final weekly USA Today Coaches' Poll, Harris Interactive Poll of media, former players and coaches, and the average of six participating computer rankings.

It is sort of the Super Bowl of the college football season (but no really) and I am sure such statements will spark furious debates. The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) logo for the 2012 Allstate BCS National Championship Game is shown along side.

The logos typically maintain a few common elements

- The top of the logo appears to have the name of the primary sponsr which in this case is Allstate Insurance company
- Its the followed by the "BCS National Championship" With BCS representing the Bowl Championship Series
- It then has the location of the game, which in this case was New Orleans
- It has the year of the game, 2012
- The final touch to the logo appears to be a football related or local element which in this case appears to be a trophy of some kind

If you look at past years logos, you will see the same common theme. Variations include local elements (such as the New Orleans Saints logo in 2008 or the palm trees in South Florida) and colors (Orange and Green for South Florida). Seems like the BCS has found a theme that works and they are sticking by it. Unlike the new Super Bowl logos, which also follow a common theme but is extremely dull, the BCS logo is slightly better in the freedom it enjoys.

This year's championship game is scheduled to be played on Monday, Jan. 9, at the Louisiana Superdome. The game is between #1 ranked Louisana State University and #2 ranked Alabama.

Euro 2008 Logo

With the UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament in full swing, I thought I would explore the
Euro 2008 logo. The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro
2008, is the 13th UEFA European Football Championship, a quadrennial football tournament for
European nations. The tournament, which is being hosted by Austria and Switzerland, began on
7 June 2008 and is scheduled to conclude with the final at Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna on
29 June 2008.

The logo has the following distinct components

Mountains - Both Austria and Switzerland are famous for their beautiful mountains. The mountains surround the soccer ball and form a large part of the logo. The mountains are in ed which is one of the primary colors in the flags of both countries. The mountains also have a nice delicate shadow as well.

Football - The football has various shades of green in it and is representative of the green mountains of the Alps.

Typography - The text on the logo has representation for the two host countries Austria and Switzerland. The red color also represents the colors of the two countries. The name of the competition Euro 2008 and the name of association that controls all football in Europe, UEFA. UEFA's logo is on the top of a circle, similar to the actual UEFA logo.

Bundesliga Logo

The Bundesliga is the highest level of Germany's football league system. The Bundesliga is composed of two divisions:

  •  1. Bundesliga (although it is rarely mentioned with the First prefix), and, below that, the
  •  2. Bundesliga (Second Bundesliga), which has been the second tier of German football since 1974.

Presently, at the end of the season, the bottom three teams of the Bundesliga are relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, and the top three finishers of the 2. Bundesliga are promoted to the top flight, where they will compete in the next season. Internationally, the most well-known German clubs include Bayern Munich, Hamburger SV, Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen.

Ligue 1 is the top division of French and Monegasque football, one of two divisions making up the LFP, the other being Ligue 2. It has been an all-professional league since its inception in 1932. The 20 Ligue 1 teams play each other twice (home and away) during the season for a 38-match schedule. At the end of the season, the bottom three teams in the division are relegated to Ligue 2. This promotion and relegation format, in place since 1995, is a relative novelty in the French top flight.

Currently, the top three teams in Ligue 1 qualify for the Champions League, with the top two proceeding directly to the group phase. The third-placed team enters in the final qualifying round. The fourth-placed team qualifies for the UEFA Cup. The fifth- and sixth-placed teams can also qualify, depending on results in the two domestic cup competitions.

La Liga Logo

Liga de Fútbol Profesional (Professional Football League), commonly known as Primera Liga and also known as Primera División, is the professional football league in Spain. It is considered to be one of the best leagues in the world along with the English Premier League and the Italian Serie A. Nine clubs have been crowned Campeones de Liga. Since the 1950s, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have dominated the competition. The former have been champions 30 times while the latter have won it on 18 occasions. Other winners include Valencia CF, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla FC, Deportivo de La Coruña, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Real Betis.

In addition to their success in Primera Liga, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are two of the most successful teams in European competition history. In 2005/06 FC Barcelona won the UEFA Champions League and Sevilla FC won the UEFA Cup. Primera Liga became the first league to do the European "double" since 1997.
